What PBSplits reads out of Apple Health, what it never puts back, and how a personal best gets found in the middle of an ordinary training run.
Your workouts, and the running distance, heart rate, and step data attached to them. That's the entire list, and it's what the app needs to reconstruct each run and measure the splits inside it.
No, and this isn't a promise, it's how the app is built. PBSplits requests read-only access and holds no write permission for any data type at all, so it couldn't modify a workout even if it tried. Your Health data is a source it reads and never a place it edits.
That's the whole idea. Most tools only look at where a run started and stopped, so a 5K you never entered doesn't exist to them. PBSplits looks inside each run and finds the fastest continuous 5K anywhere within it, so the best 5K you've ever run counts even if it happened three kilometres into a twelve-kilometre jog, and you had no idea at the time.
It runs from 400 m to 100 K, grouped into Short, Road, and Ultra, because a best effort is interesting at every scale. A 400 m inside a long run says something about your top end; a fast marathon segment inside a 50 K says something else entirely.
Yes, open the run and choose Exclude from Bests. It stays in your history and on your trends, it just stops counting toward your records. Useful for the downhill point-to-point, the day the GPS teleported you across a field, or the run you did on a bike by mistake.
Because that workout has no route attached, treadmill runs, and anything recorded without GPS. Those runs still open, still show their summary and charts, and still count for the distances they cover. There's just no line to draw.
A workout sometimes lands in Health before its route data does, especially just after a watch finishes syncing. PBSplits notices those and re-fetches them on its own, and you can always pull to refresh on the Runs tab to make it look again straight away.
Yes. Settings lets you choose min/km or min/mi, and the whole app follows.
No. Every split, record, and chart is computed on your device from the Health data already there. No account, no server, nothing uploaded.
One small banner. Where the law requires it you'll see a consent prompt on first launch, and Settings → Manage Privacy Choices lets you change your answer. Your Health data is never shared with advertisers, it never leaves the phone at all.
No account, no sign-up, no subscription. PBSplits is free.
